Life 101

Life is always interesting. It changes from day to day, definitely from year to year. What seemed like it would last forever now, looking back, seems like just a small moment in time. It will be fascinating to view "the movie" of our lives when we leave this sphere and see things in their proper perspective.

Our 60th class reunion will be held this summer in Idaho. How can it be 60 years since we graduated high school? How can it be 30 years (actually 31 this summer) since we moved into this home? Having spent 25 years in the Air Force, we had never lived anywhere longer than five years - mostly just two or three - and now our roots seem deeply planted in one spot.

This house has seen so much happiness, angst, love, forgiveness, sorrow, true joy, depression, and every other emotion under the sun. The stories need to be told, I know, but where to start!

I've saved a poem for at least the 30 years we've lived here - probably closer to the nearly 58 years we've been married. It has been sort of my guiding star through weddings and deaths, births and breakups.

"Life is worth living wherever you are
Deep down in a dungeon or high on a star.
Life is worth living, it all has a plan
When God knows you're giving the best that you can.
The saint and the sinner, the great and the small.
We are all God's children and He loves us all.
So pray when you're happy and pray when you're blue
For life is worth living when God lives with you."
Nick Kenny

Knowing God's plan has been the saving grace through all the trials and tribulations, the grand celebrations and the quiet tears that life has brought us. What do people do without the gospel? How do they survive the heartache that comes from burying a child? From watching a loved one make horrible life choices? How do people get up each morning when they don't believe in a Supreme Being who is loving and kind and wants to help you through the tangles of life?

Here's another little ditty I've saved and loved:

"Remember all the happiness that comes your way in living;
Forget each worry and distress, Be hopeful and forgiving.
Remember good, remember truth, Remember heaven's above you,
And you will find, through age and youth true joys and hearts to love you."

Thank heaven for inspiring words that sooth and motivate and uplift and remind us from whence cometh our joy and salvation!
